Having seen a few examples of some stunning horizontal email designs that pushed the boundaries a little and hopefully changed what users were expecting in a good way, I devised a plan for a JAG email campaign that would allow us to utilise the full potential of their photography. After a bit of exploring in photoshop, use of the great new content aware tool is CS5, I had a full length background image of the curtain ready to drop the talent shots in. A little bit of contouring and the addition of product names and prices and the design was complete.
The result was a really clean and simple email that exposed the customers to twice as much product as a vertically scrolling email and higher than average click through rates.
Unfortunately the horizontal scroller is a technique often ignored, however I think with a bit of planning and good execution, the results can be beneficial to any retailer looking for a great way to display product.
